EXAMPLES OF OUR WORK

Need

With over 17,000 students and more than 2,400 staff, NUI Galway is one of Ireland’s foremost centres of academic excellence. The Safety Office decided to carry out a programme of Unit safety management audits on a risk priority basis. The objectives of the audits were to;

• Review the Units’ overall compliance with occupational safety requirements (law and best practice).
• To identify any gaps and priority improvements that are needed in the management of safety.
• To identify any other measures needed to improve the safety culture and engagement of the staff and students.

Service

Each audit was conducted by a combination of meetings with the Head of Unit and the Unit Safety Co-ordinator, a review of health and safety documentation, meeting local staff and a tour of representative areas in the Unit.

Result

Weighted scores were allocated to each aspect of safety management so that the Head of Unit and staff could get a picture of performance of the Unit as a whole and so that performance could be easily tracked over time. Our team brought their extensive experience in the third level education sector to the project so that sensible, prioritised objectives were set for each Head.

Need

Penneys, the international clothing retailer, carried out a major refurbishment of their flagship store in Mary Street, Dublin. A complex project, the refurbishment entailed a lot of structural alterations on a protected building that had to be carried out whilst the store was kept open and trading during the day. The safety and segregation of the public using the stores was of paramount importance throughout the project.

Service

Integrated Risk Solutions acted as PSDP on this project for Penneys, working closely with the design team to ensure all health & safety issues were addressed at the design stage. Our team reviewed and signed off on the complex construction methodology throughout the project and carried out regular site inspections.

Result

The project was completed within time and budget to a very high standard of health & safety. Trading continued successfully throughout the project.

Need

Tullow Oil, a leading independent oil and gas exploration and production group, carried out a number of 2D and 3D land seismic projects in Uganda, Madagascar, Ethiopia and Kenya. Tullow Oil required all Environmental, Health and Safety aspects in relation to the projects to be monitored and controlled to ensure all project work complied with Best International Practice (OGP) and in line with Tullow’s Integrated Management System. A key (KPI) performance indicator to be used on all projects was the measurement of man hours worked versus LTI’s (Lost Time Incidents).

Service

Integrated Risk Solutions provided competent EHS Personnel on each of the sites for the duration of the projects. Clear reporting protocols and feedback loops were set up with Tullow’s Geophysical Technology Department. Our team managed the process from our Dublin office and worked successfully with the international contractors (Chinese, Canadian, UK, American and African) on the projects.

Result

The projects were successfully completed to a very high environmental, health and safety standard. The KPI’s were successfully met on all projects. For example, on the Ugandan project there was in excess of 1.5 million man hours worked without any LTI’s (Lost Time Incidents).

Need

Ballymore property developers, carried out the construction of 268 apartment units at ‘Dublin Landings Residential’ in Dublin’s Docklands. The scheme involved the construction of four apartment blocks ranging from 7 to 10 stories over two levels of basement car parking. Works included the clearance of the existing site, piling works, associated excavation works for foundations and services, construction of RC building structures, installation of plant to roof tops and basements, precast concrete stairs installation, external façade installation including brickwork, rains screen cladding and glazing, installation of balcony structures and internal fit out works.

Service

Integrated Risk Solutions acted as PSCS on this project for Ballymore, working closely with the Ballymore Site Management Team to manage and co-ordinate health and safety matters during the construction stage of the project. Our team coordinated the implementation of the Construction Regulations and organised cooperation between over 25 sub-contractors.

Result

The three-year project was successfully completed to a high environmental, health and safety standard. The introduction of Covid-19 control measures during the project including on-site testing, temperature checking, task assessments, site contact tracing and the management of welfare facilities ensured works progressed safely during the global pandemic.
